About
Celeste Davis hit comedy gold the moment she arrived in the world. Born to Jewish hippie nudist parents in the very heart of Orange County, California. Celeste, like any kid, rebelled against her parents’ beliefs. Still, they were hippies, so about the best she could do was make a U-turn towards conservative values, values that demanded she wear clothes. Values that required her to avoid the magic brownies. Values that included electricity. Values that made her actually want to become an accountant.Celeste unknowingly began honing her comedic voice early in life as her dad’s magician’s assistant. You read it right, a Jewish hippie magician’s assistant. Once her two halves had been made whole again through the power of magic, she continued with the improv group known as “The Age of Progressive Comedy Awareness Society (“TAPCAS”). TAPCAS used an improv method known as “The Harold,” not easy for a gal just starting out, but it served her well, giving her confidence and the knowledge that no matter what, she could always improv her way through any situation. Including bad dates with sad, stupid men.Her improv adventures continued with The Berubians, an eclectic mix of fun and strangely hilarious people and situations. Celeste’s work with The Berubians eventually led her to what has become her true calling ~ standup comedy! Celeste’s own traditionalism, combined with her innocence and simple befuddlement over her parents’ lifestyle and the effect her family has had on her life, make for the equivalent of a goldmine, and Celeste digs for all it’s worth. It’s paying off, too, with big laughs and even bigger success! Celeste’s stories about her pot-smoking parents and their disappointment in her conservative ideals resonate with audiences everywhere; her personal style engages the crowd even more.Performing to packed houses all over Southern California in clubs like The Irvine, Brea, Hollywood, and Ontario Improvs, The Queen Mary, The Ice House, Martini Blues, Harley’s, The Blue Café, and Second Stage, Celeste continues to stack up credits and fans!

The Orange County Voice
The Orange County Voice October 2008
Born to Jewish hippie nudist parents in Orange County, Celeste Davis certainly has a unique background to draw from as a comedian. She combines her unusual personal history with a conversational style that is captivating. She draws the audience in with storytelling and act outs. Davis's warm, open style makes the audience feel at home with her almost instantly. And while her background is definitely unique, her act is full of moments that everyone can relate to. In one bit she talks about her mother coming to cheer her up with the love of her life walks out on her. "Oh my god darling look at you, you're a mess! Here I picked up some lipstick on the way here. Put this on," Davis says imitating her mother. "Oh my god mom, thank you so much I feel so pretty now....waaaaahh!" she says imitating herself. Davis's ability to poke fun at her own life crises is part of what makes her so appealing. Everyone has felt their parents just do not udnerstand a certain situation at one time or another. Another element that make Davis appealing is her relaxed energy onstage. she is calm and reserved without being tense. For example, in one bit, she describes working in an office with all women. In a quiet, but expressive voice davis says "I want my own emotional weather forecast to explain how my day is gonna go. We've got heavy rains as Cindy's boyfriend just broke up with her. And by afternoon that's going to be pushed out by Shelley's PMS tsunami." She is also reserved in choice of language. For part of her emotional weather forecast, Davis says "For those of you looking out for this weekend, Jennifer's got a hot date so expect a little humidity here in the south." The topic of this particiular joke would normally be blue, but Davis delivers it in a way that makes it clever and cleanly worded. - Erikka Innes

Murrieta Valley 10, Damien 9 ... but the joke was on meThe New Guy had kind of a challenging day today, if you can call watching sports for a living "challenging." For the record, I covered Murrieta Valley's nerve-jangling 10-9 water polo win over Damien in the section semifinals at Mt. SAC. I'll spare you the earlier details, but my day was punctuated when I finally sat down to compose my story at the first establishment I stumbled upon en route home -- the "Scoreboards" sports bar in Walnut. Went into this empty room, moved a chair and a table near an electrical outlet, spread out my notes and turned on my trusty Toshiba laptop. Just as I'm about to start writing, a comedy show breaks out! There's like 10 attentive people in the audience -- family members and close friends no doubt -- and a few more at the bar, vaguely interested. So I'm sort of half-hearing a lot of jokes about body parts and the like and I'm shaking my head as I'm plowing my way through this story, describing the heroics of Nighthawk goalkeeper Brandon Jones (15 saves) and Matt Puig (six goals). At one point I called Nighthawk coach Bryan Lynton on my cell phone to ask a question -- I don't even remember about what now. But I know I interrupted the comedy show because comic/P.A. gal Celeste Davis asked me "if I was done." Another comic, Richard Weiss, later referred to me as "computer guy." "There's always one computer guy in the crowd," Weiss told me later. "You actually added to the ambience.” Deep down, I knew that. I apologized to Weiss, Davis etc. for my non-attention and interruptions. They were gracious, including Weiss who gave me his business card that describes him as "The "Stand-up Guy - Writer, Observationist, Male Prostitute." Hey, that's what it says. I don't make this stuff up. Great crowd at Mt. SAC for the polo, by the way. There were Nighthawk fans in tie-dyed shirts ... sorta like a Grateful Dead concert, except a lot more intense. The Damien fans were bonkers, too. De-fense, de-fense," the Nighthawk fans chanted. And "Let's go Nighthawks." My co-worker Suzie Ahn and I marveled at the big crowd and intensity. She filmed it all, including some post-game interviews with Lynton, Jones and Puig. Check it out soon on this Web site. - John Murphy

Gosh TV
Television Interview by Gabrielle Pantera
During the years of 2007 to 2009, I was invited to do a show called "LA Artist Walk." These were shows in downtown Los Angeles' Art District where comedians would perform in a variety of rooms. Some rooms were small and old empty retails spaces, others were restaurants, and others were theaters. This was all going on while artist had their lofts open for viewing with a few large art galleries with featured artists. Every location was different or my have unique conditions. Not all had microphones and the crowd would come in and out so sometimes by the time you got up, there was only the next comedian in the audience. Other places, it would be a packed room and we had to kick people out after the show. Comedians often traveled to several rooms a night to perform. After performing, it was a goal to find Gabrielle Pantera who would interivew us for an internet TV show called "Gosh TV." I have never been able to find this on the internet but somewhere in my own archives, I have some small footage.
